Update: June 6th

**Donald and kimmy are home from the hospital for a few weeks now, but unfortunately are in limbo as far as housing goes. They are staying in a hotel in their hometown, as they wait for progress on some sort of housing with wheelchair accesibility to meet Donnie's needs! If you are able, a donation through this site, by paypal or credit card, in any amount will be greatly appreciated! ****

April 20th-26th Update on Donald Hughes!

April 20th: Donnie's left leg is swelling without explanation, and his leg feels hard. This has limited his mobility quite a bit. They feel sure it is not a blood clot, and that has relieved Donnie's mind. His leg is swollen to twice normal size as of today, the 26th, and no answers have been found. X-Rays and an ultrasound have been performed to try and determine the cause. Please pray for wisdom for his medical team, and relief for his leg. Donnie is also getting sick almost every day, and the doctors are unsure of the cause. Kimmy worries about bringing him home with so many unanswered questions. ** Please consider giving by credit card, debit card, or paypal right here on this site! Any amount is helpful!

Thank you so much,
Roberta

Update: APRIL 14th

Kimmy Hughes updated: "I am making a book of Donnie's progress through rehab and back to home. Today he was practicing getting in and out of a car and taking his wheelchair apart and putting it in the car, then putting it back together and getting out of the car. He was doing a wonderful job, but it was difficult for him to get back into his chair. But, he did it."

March 30th Update

My cousin, Kimmy Hughes reports that today Donald's doctors came in and informed them of their intentions to move him on to rehabilitation! The medical team is planning to remove the Hema Vac from his spinal/back wound site tomorrow, and if all goes well, the move to rehab will happen soon! Please continue to pray for Donald Hughes, his wife Kimmy, their daughter, family, and his medical team. Thank you so much for your prayers and donations to their expenses. Please share this site on facebook, e-mail, etc... We are very close to $2,000, which will be 20% of my total goal in fundraising for this volunteer firefighter!

February 22, 2011

Donald Hughes, firefighter with West End Fire Department in Morganton, North Carolina was responding to a fire call, and while en route in the water truck, he was involved in a serious accident! (There are links to the news stories on the News Articles! page.) Donald (Donnie, as we all call him,) is married to my first cousin, Kimmy Hughes. When we got the news that he had mutiple, critical injuries and had been airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, we were all shocked and worried!

Donnie suffered injuries to his aorta, spine and back, punctured lung, and several crushed ribs. The injury that he will live with is the injury to his spinal cord. Donnie and Kimmy have been informed that it is 95% likely that he will not walk again. In talking with my cousin, Kimmy almost daily, they are hoping and praying for the best and preparing for the worst.

In that position, the Hughes family needs our financial support! I cannot even begin to list or calculate the expenses involved in losing the household income, transportation, fuel costs, basic bills and necessities, and just basic living!

I have buttons on this page that say Donate Now!, and you can give with any major credit card OR paypal account if you have one! EVERY dollar helps! My goal in this project is to raise $10,000!!! Sounds like a lot, but if EVERYONE who reads this blog gives a minimum of just $10, .....we will reach our goal and be a huge blessing to Donnie and his family!!!!!
